Bio
Sacco studied chemical engineering at Northeastern University and MIT before joining the Worcester Polytechnic Institute faculty. His academic work centered on chemical engineering, materials processing, and crystal growth, which connected directly to microgravity research objectives.
On STS-73, Sacco flew as a payload specialist aboard Columbia for a Spacelab research mission dedicated to microgravity science. The mission supported experiments in materials science, fluid physics, biotechnology, combustion, and human physiology.
After flight, Sacco continued academic leadership roles, including engineering dean work at Texas Tech and later provost and dean at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering.
