Bio
England earned bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Earth and planetary sciences from MIT. His scientific work included radar studies of the Moon, glaciers, Antarctica, and .
Selected by NASA in 1967, England supported Apollo and Skylab work before resigning in 1972 during a period of limited flight opportunities. He returned to NASA in 1979 and finally flew on Space Shuttle Challenger in 1985.
After NASA, England became a professor and engineering dean at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. His career now shows both the scientist-astronaut path and the later academic engineering career, rather than only the STS-51-F statistic.
