Bruce E. Melnick
Bruce Edward Melnick is a retired United States Coast Guard officer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He was one of the few Coast Guard aviators to fly as a NASA astronaut.

Bio
Melnick graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy and trained as a helicopter pilot and test pilot before NASA selected him with Astronaut Group 12 in 1987.
He flew STS-41 in 1990, helping deploy the Ulysses spacecraft toward its solar-polar mission, and STS-49 in 1992, Endeavour's first flight and the Intelsat VI rescue mission.
His shuttle record places him in both planetary-science support and satellite-servicing history. After NASA, he continued in aerospace leadership and operations.
