Bio
Meade studied electronics and engineering before becoming an Air Force pilot and test pilot. NASA selected him with Astronaut Group 11 in 1985.
He flew STS-38, STS-50, and STS-64. Those missions included classified national-security work, a long Spacelab microgravity mission, and EVA testing of shuttle rescue equipment.
On STS-64, Meade performed an EVA with Mark Lee to test the SAFER backpack and shuttle EVA rescue techniques.
