Charles Lacy Veach
Charles Lacy Veach was a United States Air Force colonel, fighter pilot, and NASA astronaut who flew two shuttle missions. He is often remembered as Lacy Veach and as one of the astronauts whose path ran through both combat aviation and shuttle work.

Bio
Veach graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and flew fighter aircraft during a long Air Force career. He served in combat in Southeast Asia, later flew with the Thunderbirds, and accumulated extensive high-performance aircraft experience.
NASA selected him in 1984. He flew STS-39, a Department of Defense mission, and STS-52, which deployed the Laser Geodynamic Satellite II and carried Canadian and U.S. microgravity payloads.
Veach died of cancer in 1995 while still part of the astronaut community. His two missions logged more than eighteen days in orbit and tied him to both defense payload operations and international shuttle research.
