David M. Brown
David McDowell Brown was a United States Navy captain, physician, naval aviator, flight surgeon, and NASA astronaut. He died with the Columbia crew during after STS-107.

Bio
Brown studied biology at the College of William & Mary and earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. He entered Navy medicine, became a flight surgeon, and later trained as a naval aviator, a rare combination of medical and pilot experience.
NASA selected Brown in 1996. His first and only flight was STS-107, a dedicated research mission aboard Columbia that carried Spacehab experiments in life sciences, physical sciences, combustion, , and technology.
Columbia broke apart on February 1, 2003, killing Brown and six crewmates. His record treats STS-107 as a full research mission and records the accident plainly without reducing his biography to the disaster.
