Franz Artur Viehböck
Franz Artur Viehböck is an Austrian electrical engineer and research cosmonaut who became the first Austrian citizen in space. His Austromir 91 mission sent Austrian experiments to Mir during the final months of the Soviet Union.

Bio
Viehböck studied electrical engineering before selection with Clemens Lothaller for the Soviet-Austrian Austromir project. After two years of training, he was assigned to fly the short-duration research mission.
He launched on Soyuz TM-13 in October 1991 with Alexander Volkov and Toktar Aubakirov, then returned on Soyuz TM-12 with Anatoly Artsebarsky and Aubakirov. Aboard Mir, he conducted Austrian experiments in space medicine, physics, materials, and technology.
After his flight, Viehböck worked in aerospace and technology business roles, including work connected to Rockwell, Boeing, and technology coordination in Lower Austria. His spaceflight remains Austria's first human space mission.
