John Michael Lounge
John Michael Lounge was an American engineer, Navy officer, Vietnam War veteran, and NASA astronaut. He flew three shuttle missions and worked during the transition from early shuttle operations into space-station planning.

Bio
Lounge graduated from the United States Naval Academy and earned a graduate degree in astrogeophysics from the University of Colorado. Before joining NASA, he served as a Navy flight officer and later in reserve and Air National Guard aviation roles.
He flew STS-51I, STS-26, and STS-35. His first mission deployed and repaired communications satellites, STS-26 returned the shuttle to flight after Challenger, and STS-35 carried the Astro-1 astronomy payload.
Between and after flights, Lounge worked on shuttle payload operations, Skylab support, and space-station design. That work placed him close to both operational shuttle missions and the planning culture that eventually produced the International .
