John Bennett Herrington
John Bennett Herrington is an American retired naval aviator, engineer, and former NASA astronaut. In 2002, he became the first enrolled citizen of a Native American tribe to fly in space.

Bio
Herrington is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation. He studied applied mathematics, became a naval aviator and test pilot, and entered NASA with the operational and engineering background common to shuttle .
His only spaceflight was STS-113 aboard Endeavour in 2002. The mission delivered the P1 truss to the International and exchanged the 5 and Expedition 6 crews.
Herrington performed three with Michael López-Alegría during STS-113, helping install and outfit the station's truss structure. His spacewalk record makes the mission important beyond the representation milestone.
