José Moreno Hernández
José Moreno Hernández is an American engineer, former NASA astronaut, public servant, and STEM advocate. His story is widely known because he grew up in a migrant farmworker family before becoming an engineer at Lawrence Livermore and later flying on the Space Shuttle.

Bio
Hernández earned electrical engineering degrees from the University of the Pacific and the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before NASA selected him, he worked on imaging and instrumentation, including technology connected to digital mammography.
He flew on STS-128 aboard Discovery in 2009, an International logistics mission that delivered supplies, experiments, and equipment using the Leonardo module. He served as a and helped support transfer and robotic operations.
After NASA, Hernández became involved in public service, business, education, and advocacy. His life became the subject of the film A Million Miles Away, bringing his astronaut path to a broader public audience.
