Bio
Ham graduated from the United States Naval Academy and became a naval aviator and test pilot. Before NASA, he worked with F/A-18E/F carrier suitability testing, a background that matched the shuttle pilot track.
He piloted STS-124 in 2008, the Discovery mission that delivered the main pressurized module of Japan's Kibo laboratory to the ISS. In 2010, he commanded STS-132, an Atlantis mission that delivered the Russian-built Rassvet module and spare parts.
Ham's two flights sit late in the shuttle program, when the was focused heavily on finishing ISS assembly. His missions helped turn the station from a construction site into a working international laboratory.
