Bio
McCulley graduated from Purdue University and served in the Navy as a submariner, aviator, and test pilot before NASA selected him with Astronaut Group 10 in 1984.
He piloted STS-34 in 1989, deploying the Galileo spacecraft toward Jupiter. The mission helped restore NASA planetary exploration launches after the Challenger accident.
