Norishige Kanai

Bio
Kanai trained as a medical doctor and served in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force before JAXA selected him as an astronaut candidate in 2009. His background in diving medicine and operational medical support fit naturally with long-duration expedition work.
He flew Soyuz MS-07 to the International with Anton Shkaplerov and Scott Tingle in December 2017 and returned in June 2018. During the mission he supported research, station operations, and one . Expeditions 54 and 55 are the station assignment inside that Soyuz mission, not separate flights.
