Richard James Hieb
Richard James Hieb is an American engineer, former NASA astronaut, and aerospace executive. He flew three shuttle missions and performed during STS-49, the dramatic first flight of Endeavour.

Bio
Hieb studied mathematics, physics, and aerospace engineering before working at NASA. His background placed him in payload, robotics, and EVA roles rather than the pilot track.
He flew STS-39 in 1991, STS-49 in 1992, and STS-65 in 1994. On STS-49, Hieb participated in EVAs during the capture, repair, and redeployment of Intelsat VI, including the first three-person spacewalk.
He later served as payload on STS-65, the International Microgravity Laboratory-2 mission. After NASA, Hieb worked in aerospace industry roles and later taught aerospace engineering.
