Bio
Prokopyev trained as a military pilot and served in Russian Air Force units before cosmonaut selection. His aviation background led into Soyuz commander preparation, while his station assignments placed him in some of the most technically visible Russian-segment work of the late 2010s and early 2020s.
His first mission launched on Soyuz MS-09 in 2018 and included 56/57 station operations. That flight became widely discussed after a small hole was discovered in the Soyuz orbital module, leading to investigation work and an EVA inspection.
His second mission launched on Soyuz MS-22 in September 2022 and returned on Soyuz MS-23 in September 2023 after the MS-22 coolant leak forced a spacecraft replacement plan. The completed record is two spaceflights, eight EVAs, and 567 days, 15 hours, 12 minutes in space.
