Bio
Henricks graduated from the United States Air Force Academy, earned a public administration graduate degree, and became an Air Force test pilot. He entered NASA during the late shuttle development and early operational period.
He piloted STS-44 and STS-55, then commanded STS-70 and STS-78. Those missions included Department of Defense satellite deployment, Spacelab D-2, a TDRS deployment, and the Life and Microgravity Spacelab mission.
His mission sequence shows the shuttle's variety in the 1990s: defense payloads, international laboratory work, communications infrastructure, and life-sciences research. Henricks's role evolved into command as that mission variety matured.
