Bio
Kopra graduated from the United States Military Academy and later earned graduate degrees in aerospace engineering and strategic studies. His Army career included aviation, test, and technical assignments before NASA selected him with Astronaut Group 18 in 2000.
He launched on STS-127 in 2009, joined Expedition 20 aboard the ISS, and returned on STS-128. He later launched on Soyuz TMA-19M for Expeditions 46 and 47.
Kopra performed during station operations and commanded Expedition 47. His record shows the mixed shuttle-and-Soyuz path many NASA astronauts followed after the station entered permanent operations.
After NASA, Kopra moved into commercial space and robotics leadership.
