Yelena Olegovna Serova is a Russian engineer, former cosmonaut, and politician who became the first Russian woman to visit the International . Her mission came after a long gap in Russian women's spaceflight following Yelena Kondakova.

Bio
Serova studied at the Moscow Aviation Institute and worked in engineering and mission-control environments before cosmonaut selection. She completed basic training in 2009 and was later assigned to a long-duration ISS crew.
Soyuz TMA-14M launched in September 2014 with Aleksandr Samokutyayev, Serova, and Barry Wilmore. She served as a during 41 and 42, supporting station operations, research, and maintenance.
After landing in March 2015, Serova moved into Russian politics and served in the State Duma. Her flight remains important as Russia's return to flying women on orbital station crews.
