Recognize a different use of the name
Dongfanghong also names a lineage of communications spacecraft platforms. The DFH-4 family developed by the China Academy of Space Technology is a useful example. A is the supporting spacecraft system: it supplies functions such as power, thermal control, orientation and propulsion so that a mission’s payload can do useful work. It is not a road vehicle or a single radio channel.
CAST’s 2015 description identifies propulsion and service modules and solar arrays in the DFH-4 design. Its later family overview includes different configurations and names Apstar 6D as an example. A family name therefore does not specify one immutable set of dimensions or power values. Nor is DFH-4 simply the fourth flight of the small 1970 satellite carrying an unchanged experiment.

Connect the payload with the ground network
A communications payload receives signals and sends them toward appropriate coverage areas. The bus keeps the spacecraft powered, oriented and in its intended operating region. Ground facilities provide command, control and connections to users. A manufacturer may build the spacecraft, an operator may manage the service, and customers may use terminals on the ground. Those organizations and pieces of hardware have different responsibilities.
Two spacecraft using related buses can support different missions because their payloads, antennas, coverage and ground arrangements differ. Sharing a platform can reuse engineering experience, but the complete configuration still needs testing. A successful bus demonstration does not establish the throughput of every customer link, just as a new payload does not eliminate the need for reliable power and thermal control.

Try a small spacecraft power budget
Imagine a fictional communications spacecraft with 10 kilowatts available during a chosen operating period. Its supporting systems require 3 kilowatts, and the planned payload mode requires 6. The remaining margin is 1 kilowatt. These are teaching numbers, not DFH-4 specifications. The exercise shows why the payload cannot consume the entire quoted spacecraft power without accounting for the bus.
Now add a temporary 2-kilowatt demand during the same period. The total becomes 11 kilowatts, exceeding the assumed supply. Operators or designers must change the schedule, load or available capability rather than count a negative margin as usable power. Real analysis also considers operating conditions, degradation and stored energy. Thinking in terms of a complete system helps explain how a communications platform supports many services while placing limits on each configuration.
