Read the photograph at the milestone it shows
NASA’s October 29, 2025 image shows HTV-X1 held by Canadarm2 above Earth. The arm taking hold was an important arrival milestone. It did not mean that the vehicle had autonomously docked or that crew cargo transfer was already under way.
The photograph lets a reader trace the arm to the spacecraft and see the relationship to station hardware. It cannot establish the later electrical checks or conditions behind a closed hatch. A good account combines the image with operational reports rather than asking one frame to tell the whole arrival story.

Follow the connection report
JAXA’s October 31 report describes events on October 30 in Japan Standard Time. Common Berthing Mechanism bolt fastening finished around 04:43. Station power started at 20:10, marking completion of the connection in that report. The hatch opened around 21:37, and crew entry was confirmed around 23:03.
These timestamps describe different milestones. The interval from hatch opening to confirmed entry was approximately 86 minutes. That elapsed time is not a universal waiting requirement for cargo vehicles; it is a calculation from this particular report. Keep approximate times approximate and retain their stated time zone.

Look closely
Does the arm holding HTV-X1 prove that crew unloading has begun?
See what to notice
No. It establishes robotic handling. The connection, hatch opening, crew entry and unloading each need their own evidence.

Build a timeline without collapsing the evidence
A capture photograph and a connection report can carry different calendar dates because they document different events and may use different time conventions. First identify the event, then the date and time zone, before deciding that two accounts conflict. Do not silently rename an entire arrival sequence as one instant.
For an original evidence exercise, suppose a report confirms electrical connection but says nothing about unloading a freezer. You may state that the power milestone occurred. You still need a cargo-handling record to claim that the freezer was unloaded and operating aboard the station. Breaking a mission into explicit milestones makes both achievement and uncertainty easier to see.
