Reach the planet, then reach a surface
Tianwen-1’s arrival at Mars did not itself place Zhurong on the ground. Orbital flight and surface delivery require different changes in motion. The descent plan combined atmospheric braking, a parachute and powered slowing before touchdown. No one of those steps replaces the complete landing sequence.

Make decisions close to the hazard
Signals take time to cross interplanetary distances. A fictional controller who waits for a view of a fast-approaching obstacle and then sends a last-second correction may be too late. A landing system needs onboard sensing and control for decisions that cannot wait for Earth. Ground preparation and autonomy support different parts of the task.

Look closely
Which object can change its observing location?
See what to notice
The rover can travel locally; the landing platform remains at the touchdown site.

Read the surface image
The photograph of Zhurong and its landing platform was made using a deployed remote camera on Mars. It shows hardware at the surface and distinguishes the mobile rover from the platform. It does not, by itself, identify every atmospheric maneuver or establish the composition of the surrounding ground.
