SPACEHAB-1
Commercial pressurized research module
SPACEHAB 1 was the first flight of the commercial Single Research Module, carried in Endeavour's payload bay on STS-57. A pressurized tunnel let the crew enter the aluminum laboratory from the middeck and tend 22 research and technology payloads. Standardized lockers, experiment racks, power, data, ventilation, and cooling turned payload-bay volume into an additional shirt-sleeve workspace without creating a free-flying spacecraft.
