A launch and an appointment

The Chang Zheng 7 launcher carries Tianzhou cargo missions from Wenchang. The photographed Y6 rocket supported Tianzhou-5 in 2022. A rocket supplies the initial flight; the cargo spacecraft still has to meet the station. Rocket and spacecraft identities should stay separate in an account of the mission.

A station continually moves around Earth. A cargo vehicle must adjust its relative orbit and approach, rather than simply point at where the station appeared at launch. Docking also requires a suitable port and a configuration ready to receive it. A successful ascent cannot guarantee those later conditions.

In a fictional delivery plan, supplies run out on the very day a new cargo launch is expected. A delay would immediately disrupt station work. A reserve and a plan for prioritizing consumption make the schedule more resilient. Use expected dates as planning inputs, not guarantees that erase operational margins.
