A completed historical chain
Chang'e 6 returned far-side lunar samples in June 2024. Queqiao-2 supported communications. After landing in the South Pole–Aitken basin, the mission collected material, launched its ascent vehicle, transferred samples through lunar-orbit docking and returned a capsule to Earth. Each step preserved access to the same physical collection.

Many necessary links
In a fictional replay of a sample-return plan, the ascent succeeds but the transfer container cannot cross the docking interface. The samples have left the surface but have not reached the return capsule. The case illustrates why a mission review must follow the material through every handover, rather than counting launch or landing alone.
The Chang'e 6 return capsule at its recovery site on June 25, 2024. This is Earth recovery after the far-side sample-return mission.
Look closely
Which earlier steps had to succeed for material to reach this capsule on Earth?
See what to notice
Collection, ascent, orbital transfer and return all connect the lunar site to this recovery scene.

A sample is valuable without being universal
Far-side material permits comparisons with samples from other locations. It does not make a small collection representative of every depth and terrain on the far side. Record the site and collection method, then ask which conclusions the measurements support. Planned future missions should remain labeled as plans until their own operations are documented.
