A launch-only map leaves out essential work
Space activity includes observing Earth, operating ground stations, building instruments, processing data and providing services. A country need not independently launch an orbital rocket to make a substantial contribution. This wider definition should be applied consistently, rather than used only when discussing countries with smaller budgets.
South Africa’s SANSA provides space-science and space-weather work; its operational space-weather center in Hermanus opened in 2022. Kenya’s Taifa-1, launched in 2023, illustrates national Earth-observation development with external launch and industrial connections. These examples serve different purposes and should not be ranked as if they were interchangeable rockets.

Trace partnerships across regional boundaries
Brazil and China agreed in 1988 to develop the CBERS Earth-resources satellite program. INPE’s history identifies the partnership and the participating development institutions. It belongs in both countries’ histories but should have one canonical program entry, with each contribution explained instead of counting it as two unrelated inventions.
The United Arab Emirates’ Hope project illustrates planetary exploration involving national goals and international expertise. Its scientific purpose concerns Mars, while its institutional history includes the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre. A regional survey is an entry point into that mission’s own evidence and results, not a substitute for studying them.
A wider map follows the whole mission chain
Original teaching diagram. Space and ground contributions. Instruments and spacecraft. Networks and operations. Results and participation. Data analysis and services. Shared programs and training. Use the same evidence standard across regions; a national launch count is not the whole history.

Use the same evidence questions everywhere
Build a comparison with columns for goals, responsible organizations, partners, systems, demonstrated events and data or service outcomes. For a fictional flood project, a university instrument, overseas launcher and local analysis team can all be essential. The most visible contributor does not automatically deserve every credit.
This lesson is a starting map rather than a complete list of countries. Further histories include other Asian, African, Latin American and Middle Eastern programs, Australia and New Zealand, and countries with substantial launch, manufacturing or ground-network heritage. Follow official local-language records where available, preserve uncertain translations, and distinguish a program, a mission, an agency and a planned proposal.
